Hi Kelley,
Interesting subject this one. I don't think I've ever seen an 'internal tank' Mini Countryman or Traveller export, (or otherwise) with 850 script on either of the rear doors??? Add to the equation that the 'Seven' was eventually dropped overall from the Austin Mini models, (sometime in 1962 I believe), and that the 'Minor' was eventually dropped overall from the Morris Mini models. Very confusing even on the 'home market' considering there was already a 'Morris Minor Traveller' in production! (not Mini). So did the Factory ever badge any of the 'home market' Mini Wagons with the 850 script after dropping the 'Seven' or the 'Minor'??? I think they may have replaced the 'Seven' and the 'Minor' with simply 'Mini' (following the Austin or Morris script on the 'home market' Mini Countryman and Travellers). I agree that the North American exports were badged '850's' from fairly early on. The fact is though, that the Factory realized the names were somewhat confusing early on, (if only on the 'home market'), and started rebadging at some point. Were all the North American export Wagons badged with '850' right from the beginning of production??? I'd like to know the answer myself! Also, how many licks does it take to reach the center of a Tootsie Pop! Mini Estate
P.S. I know that only one 'L' was used in Traveller, but I can't help myself!
P.S.S. My 1967 MKI Austin Mini Countryman Woody US import has the following script on the lower right rear door: AustinMini 1275 (not stock! HA!)

An early Austin Countryman sold in the U.S. would have been badged "Austin 850" just like the early sedans. I think since the Austin 7 wasn't really known in the U.S. the badging was different here.
The "Mini Minor" and "Morris 850" badges were both used on export Travelers. I don't know which was used in North America or the U.S. If I had to guess I would say "Morris 850" to compliment the "Austin 850" badge.

MINI-MINOR script on the lower left side door straight across sounds right, (on a '61) On the very early Austin Countryman the script would probably read AUSTIN SEVEN on the lower right side door at a slant one word over the other. There was no doubt variations on export vs home market during the early transition years when the Seven was dropped from the Austin, and Minor was dropped from the Morris. Mini Estate

By the way, does anyone know what the correct badges would be for my '61 Morris Mini Traveller. I think "MINI-MINOR" on the left rear, is the right rear supposed to say anything?

I would like to know more about the "special" caps for sure, I was offered a NOS cap for under $200 and from what Ive read, I'm thinking I'll take it.

Actually Rick, not that expensive-
When l restored my 1961 Austin Seven (Now in TN) l put out the word for a cap for an internal tank woody-
A local `Born Again Christian mini type`was kind enough to offer me a used one for $200.00, l guess he was going to donate the money to his church (LOL)
I then received 2 brand new caps in the mail, both fit the mini, the problem is, there is only about a 16 th of an inch clearance for the cap to fit inside the wood trim- These were aftermarket caps, obviously made for other applications- (cost $9.00)
I believe Willie B in GA sent me one of the caps, so he must know where to source them new-

I have a colour vision problem...but why do I think I'm looking at images from 2 LWB Minis?
If you are looking at my mini pics, its bad photography. We set all the wood bits on the mini to see that they were all there, and they were! Don't ya just love the brownish rattle can primer?!

That was my trimmers car before he sold it ,after doing some work on my ex woody it convinced him to put on the wood kit , he done a LOT of work on this car and it was a BLOODY nice car he misses it and is on the look out for another one.

New to the forum. Getting ready to breath some life into my 61 Morris Mini Traveller internal tank.
It rolled off the line on Feb 13 , 1961
Its is all original, unmolested and rust free! Really. PO made a half hearted attempt to start paint work and stopped, so that's the worst of the damage. Not many pics yet but I will keep things updated as they happen. The car was 'gifted' to me with no title, but I was recently able to convince DMV to title it for me! Now we can move forward with the car.
