I noticed in another post the little plastic button that goes in the cup on a floor mounted starter switch. These are on early 850s. The switch itself has been reproduced the button is a bit of a find. I have a project that's missing one. I will set up and machine one when the time comes.

I just noticed someone listed some good used complete MKI chrome window latches for sale! I think that might be another early Mini part to add to the list of most sought after?

Oh yeah, I almost forgot this early Mini part: A complete external drivers side locking door handle for the early Aussie Minis. Completely different than the early UK door handles. These handles are known to break! They seem to be made from some kind of potmetal. Everyone I've known with an Aussie Mini has had their drivers door handle break, (including me!) Plan on forking out well over $200 if you can even locate a used one from someone in the 'Land Down Under'! Then you will probably have to have it rechromed and rekeyed. It's a real hassel.                                           Mini Estate

I noticed someone also mentioned that the early Mokes petrol caps are also rare. I actually think any original MKI Mini petrol cap would be difficult to find, (other than off of another MKI Mini?) I lost one off of my 1963 Austin 850 Saloon once. I had to find one off another early Mini. There are replacement caps that will fit, but they are not the genuine article. I think the MKI petrol caps were possibly stainless? The aftermarkets are chromed it seems, and not the same.         Mini Estate

I know of a set of riveted wheels in good condition, and also a set of 1959 hubcaps which were sat in a dusty box and about to be chucked !

I may have mine sleeved since they are the kind with a big nut on the top where the pipe goes in.  I feel lucky to still have the metal caps even though they are pretty rough.

The washer bottle on Ebay is already up to $330 with 3 days to go.  It'll reach $500 for sure.  That guy has a bunch of stuff for sale I'll never be able to afford.  I'm betting the Champion spark plug caps top $600.

I may be out in left field here, but during a clean up session at the shop yesterday I was moving some 5 gallon buckets of master cyls around and saw a metal cap looking back at me. I think it was from an old Brake fluid can back when they had metal caps. It screwed right off but did not have the slot pressed across the top. Now that masters have been reproduced they are not worth having sleeved and brakes are not something to half step on.

I can not figure out why the metal caps bring such a premium as anyone who has a press and a metal spinning lathe can make them.

If i thought I could sell 20 a month at $30 I would set up and make them myself.

Yep, I've got a pair of metal ones for sale.

I sold one for $60 without hesitation, so I'm asking a bit more, so I've got some wiggle room.

I remember finding some of those fancy new (mid 60s) plastic caps for the master cylinders in the junkyard. Much prettier than the old rusty metal caps on my masters. So I threw away my metal master caps. Today I see this...

What Steve is referring to is the plastic reducers that were used on MK1 & MK2 Cooper S, not MK1 Cooper.

Part numbers were:  24A2060 & 24A2061

Basically, when they added the Brake Servo to the RH side of the engine compartment in the Cooper S', they found out the large fresh air hose from the grille to the heater would not fit around the servo.  In their infinate wisdom, they made two plastic fittings that stepped the hose down in size to pass the servo, then back up to original size to meet up with the hole in the bulkhead and the hose connecting to the heater.

I think there is a fresh air inlet behind the grille around 3 inchs in dia. with a hose and then a reducer followed by a smaller tube and then it gets larger before going though the firewall. The smaller dia. is in order to clear the brake booster.
