Thanks, I rolled out at 5 this morning walked the dog went to shop washed and checked fluids and air in mini and went on Turkey run all day. When I got back to the shop and said bye to all who went the mini ate another light switch. The third one in a year. Time to install a headlight relay.
It may be time for us to bail on the 1071 biz. With the shell unmolested not much worse than that one, the front and rear sub frames blasted powder coated and rebuilt the engine tranny and 5 3.5 wheels what would those guys pay? Oh yeah the title and vin plate still in place with body / Fe and slam panel numbers. Tank and glass! Thanks

I think if it were a link I could take a look.
For general info there were four non recessed windscreen 850s at my shop for the turkey run today and only one had the splash panels. The Morris yes and the three Austins no. I stand by my earlier post.

After thinking about it the last time I saw a set was on a very early Morris. The same guy did have an early Inno but I don't think it had them. The reason I saw the car was his painter couldn't figure how to remove the doors. The panels were covered with undercoater. They are only correct on early cars and Morris at that I think.
This is the kind of thread that drew me to this site back in the day. People talking about minis without all the BS.
My name is Steve Gibbs and I own Cooper Tune located in Hampton VA. It's a 3700 sq. ft. classic only mini repair and restoration shop. No job is to large or to small. I have a truck and trailer and pick up cars most of which the owners fly in and drive home. I also buy parts (very interested in trannys) that can be used on my projects. There are two vintage racers running on the east coast that I built. I have one going together now. One has won two Jefferson 500s and the other won the Gold Cup class and group in 08. If I can help you contact me.

Considering they were something that was dropped early on in the mk1 history.. I imagine they were there as the very early cars were even more vulnerable due to the fact they only had the stiffeners and not the inner apex panel covering up the gap to the inner box sections. The water and dirt could actually get inside the box sections. When they added the inner apex panel it mostly made them redundant in their eyes I would imagine.

That's where they should be. Don't know if Nick has them loaded there or not. You can always email him and order them. As far as fitting later Minis, the answer is Yes and No. The shape is the same inside the fender, so theoretically they would fit in the space the same. Keep in mind though, the later model Minis have a vent hose that runs under the RH side that would have to go thru the fender liners. Guess you could cut a hole in them and feed it thru. I really don't think putting them on a later car would be worth the effort though. The main reason for putting them on MK1 and MK2 cars is that all kinds of crap lands on the hinge stiffener and is a great place to breed rust. These panels keep that area shielded from road dirt and muck. As there is nothing like that on late models, I don't see why you would need them.

I don't see them listed in the store...
By the way, would such a thing fit a late model mini, like from the '80s or '90s?
thx, Norm

Forgot to mention, the ones Nick makes were direct copies from the originals that I had. I did the AutoCAD drawings and he loaded them into his CNC for accurate cutting. Of course, there are several bends and stuff that still requires his hands on skills and attention to detail which he is great at. Like I said before, $35 is a bargain if that is still a good price. These inner fender guards are a must have for anyone with a MK1 that wants to preserve his/her hinge panels.

Steve,
I have those early inner fender splash liners.

I also understand that something like that is available in plastic as an aftermarket item but I have never seen them.

It seems to me early Morris and maybe some Innos had a splash shield that kept stuff out of the inner hinge area. They were held in place by several screws that showed along the inner fender by the door opening. Nice feature I'd like to have a pair to fab some up from.

On the thread Poll: 63 rust repair by Josh4444, there are pictures and one shows the floor mount starter assembly. If you can come up with a button or even a couple I'd be interested. I have a new reproduction switch and two old ones I plan to rebuild if needed. Thanks

Somewhere down in the shed I have a paper bag full of the little rubber boots that covered that button. Decades ago my Father-in-law's auto shop was throwing out obsolete stock and I got in before they were consiged to the dumpster....
Cheers, Ian
