On 2002-2003 models, these vents were two piece units with filter material that quickly disintegrated. If you own a 2002 - 2003 model, upgrade to these one piece grille and eliminate the filter, if it hasn't already disintegrated. (Your MINI has an interior microfilter filter the cabin air.)

If you need to replace the grilles on your 2004-2006, these are the factory replacements.
