This bypass valve is actuated by a vacuum pipe near the throttle body and re-circulates the supercharger air when boost is not required. 

Fits the following models:

2002-2006 R53 MINI Cooper S Hardtop
2005-2008 R52 MINI Cooper S Convertible

If your MINI has been feeling a bit sluggish, check to make sure this bypass valve closes completely. If it doesn't close all the way, you are losing precious boost and lowering your gas mileage!
