The "hoof" on my shifter no longer springs back. Is this a symptom of needing to replace the shift knob? Thank you

Yes, if the spring on the 'hoof' is shot, then you need to replace the shift knob.

Question:

Is there a video that demonstrates the removal and instillation of this shift knob?

Answer:

We don't have a video for removing the automatic shift knob, but there may be some on youtube.

Here are the official instructions:

Note: Do not twist knob during removal as this would cause the anti-twist lock in the knob to shear off.

Tug firmly to remove knob.

Unofficially, here is what I recommend:

Before you begin, you might set the parking brake and move the shifter to neutral to get it in a more vertical position.

Release the trim from the center console at the base of the shifter.
Straddle the center console and bend forward so your gut is over the shift knob.
Pull on the shift knob firmly towards your gut - this way when the knob releases suddenly, you will pull it into your gut and not hurt anything else.
Beware of the electrical connection as everything releases. You will need to disconnect the connector to free the shift knob assembly.
