Question:

I have a JCW New MINI Cooper R56 and have seen a few videos on the crankshaft position sensor but this one seems to go into the engine block rather than the sensor thats right on top of the engine. I don’t want to get them mixed up as my MINI hasn't been running and I think this or the part that I talked about is the issue at hand.

Answer:

The sensor on the valve cover is probably the 'camshaft' position sensor.
The crankshaft position sensor mounts on the transmission housing next to the flywheel. It is located under a cover on the transmission, right next to the passenger side axle.
