the car is in Canton, Ohio, but after talking to my father-in-law today, I think he has decided to keep it for a while longer. Thanks for the link though,

Abel

WOW...those last Spitz were indeed ugly at the front.

Where's the car Abel ... nearby?  If so, get a listing to TCOC.

I have a few spitfire and GT6 parts if people need some stuff. I do have a head and some carbs from a GT6.

I have one complete 1971 spitfire for parts

It is always good to have parts cars.  I have both a Frankenspit ('72 with parts from '71 to '78) and a GT6.  At the moment the GT6 is getting an engine rebuild which is not going well.  I am collecting a lot of used engine parts in the hopes of ending up with one complete and reliable lump.

Very little salt on the roads here, particularly this year.  The Spitfire is a car for my sons so they need to drive it in all sorts of weather.  The hardtop just makes the winter experience better for them.

Doug,

I own probably 6 or 7 parts Spitfires, (2) H Prod SCCA Spitfires, 3 or 4 decent road Spitfires but I use 4 wheel drive in the snow!  I'm sure there are a number of Spits driven in the winter where there isn't a lot of salt used, but the ones where they do use salt have a limited life Wink

I only commented on the tops that they aren't in as demand as one would think.....not like the Miata hard tops that you need to race a spec. Miata.

I really should change my name to 1296 as I haven't raced the 1147 engine in years.

TMSmith, the very last Spitfires (78-80?) had foam filled heavy bumpers.  The '72 pictured does not have rubber bumpers.  Those black things on the front are plastic bonnet hinge covers.  They break easily and are almost as expensive to replace as bumpers themselves.

Abel, you didn't mention your father-in-law wanted to sell his car.  I can agree with the estimates above.  If the convertible top and hard top are both in good condition the value will be towards the high-end of what was mentioned above.

1147, I always assumed you were a Spitfire owner since your login name is a Spitfire engine displacement!  We put the hardtop on our '72 for winter driving.  If the car is more than just a summer fun car the hardtop turns it into a more functional daily driver in cold weather.

$3K plus or minus around $500 depending on whether he takes care of a few of those issues.  eople always think hardtops are worth some money, but when was the last time you saw a bugeye, spitfire or for that matter any collectible convertible running around with a hardtop on?  If they are nice cars they are driven when it's sunny with the top down and when it's raining they are in the garage or they simply put the soft top up.  I have several Spitfire hardtops and maybe they would bring $100 they are the earlier ones, so maybe the late models have move value but I wouldn't bank on it.

It has been a while since I've owned one.  When they ran well they were a sweet machine, they are as reliable as many other Brit cars.  Replaced two monoleafs in 1000 miles, triunions and all electrics.  Engine, trans and clutch were right behind.  Might be able to get $500-750 for the hard top and about $3000 for the car.  The independent rear suspension made it all worth while.

Hello all,

my father-in-law is considering selling his 1972 Triumph Spitfire. It is a 1500cc with 70,000 miles convertible with hardtop included. The fule line might possibly need to be replaced due to the car being sitting for 3 years, but the engine runs fine (it might need som tune-up). The overall condition of the car is good. There is no rust in it.

I know that many of you are interested in other Brittish cars, so I wanted to ask if somebody can tell me a reasonable price for this car or point me to any other forum or webpage with information,

thanks,

Abel

PS:the car has this same color (I have to get pictures of the real one from my in-law)
