Folks; Minimania states that the DINANTRONICS Elite Performance Tuner gives 201 ft-lb peak torque for the B38 engine in the F56.
Can the stock, OEM clutch for the 6-speed manual comfortably handle 201 ft-lb?
At what peak torque level would you recommend a heavier duty clutch, assuming you wanted to go farther than the re-programming and modify the intake, downpipe, exhaust, etc?
Similarly, you state 295 ft-lb peak torque for DINANTRONICS Elite Performance Tuner with the B48 engine in the F56. Can the stock, OEM clutch for the 6-speed manual in the Cooper S comfortably handle 295 ft-lb?
At what peak torque level would you recommend a heavier duty clutch for the B48 in the F56?
My application is the Street Touring Category in SCCA autocross. Clutch modification/substitution in severely limited.
Many thanks, Dave
Hello David,
Thank you for your interest with Mini Mania and our products.
The need for a stronger clutch after increasing power has a lot to do with how the car is driven with the added power.
Since the JChe need for a stronger clutch after increasing power has a lot to do with how the car is driven with the added powerW uses a different clutch from the Cooper S (presumably to handle the added hp), it appears that MINI feels the stock Cooper S clutch is not up to the task.
For this reason, I would 'highly recommend' an upgraded clutch if you upgrade the ECU software, intake, downpipe and exhaust.
I can't offer you a set torque figure that would require a stronger clutch since there are too many variables that may affect the failure point of a given clutch and we don't have the resources to perform quantitative testing....
I hope this helps.
Best regards,
Ken
