Yes..

Although I would pull the column off the rack spline (after loosening the rack bolts).  Otherwise it kinda of flops around while you're removing the drop bracket ... Maybe use a loop of string to hold it in the general location until you can refit it to the proper bracket??

All,

My Cooper S Wannabe has an extension drop bracket attached that was find when I was 40 and the steering wheel was a small diameter and the steering rack was a standard 2.4 (?) turns lock to lock.

Now I'm 57, the steering wheel is of a larger dia to off-set the 2.2 rack and it a tight fit.

Is it as straight forward to loosen the steering rack U-bolts nuts (4) and to remove the extension and attach the steering column to the orginal spot and re-tighten the U-bolt nuts? 

I always thought old cars were expensive......then I got an ex-wife Yell
