Mechanical.....Oops!!! My bad........The electrician I worked with had a pig valve, kept on saying he needed to get it replaced as it was 20yrs old. He failed to show for work one night.... We found him doing what he loved, working on his classic car.

RIP Mil

DyeLooper,
I had my aortic valve replaced over twenty years ago. And I don't have a mechanical, pig, or bovine valve.
Doc did what's called the "Ross Procedure". They took out my aortic valve and fed it to the cat or whatever they do with the leftover pieces. Then, they removed my pulminary valve and used it to replace the aortic. To replace my pulminary valve, they used a human donor valve.
It's not a common procedure I've been told it's generally less than 100/year. Arnold Schwarzenegger had his done about the same time as mine.
Supposed to be good for life... Although if it fails, I suppose that would be the end of the warrantee. [rolleyes]
There isn't a day that goes by that I don't thank the family that donated such a gift during a time of grief.
Folks, if you're not a donor, think about it.

Mechanical DyeLooper (as in a slatted blind)...ergo "click, click, click...".

Tissue valves are now good for 15 years or more due to improved preparation of the donor valves.

The mechanical valve "life" 200 years...downside addressing potential clot issues.  I'm good with that.

Typical cut-off here in British Columbia, one gets a tissue valve if over 70 but can opt for the mechanical valve if younger.

All included with our monthly universal medicare premiums.

Rick,

Good thing, Downton must have used some rim flow valves and done an excellent job!

Remember, Pooh, the Honey Pot...you still have to create Christopher Robin, Tigger, Hare, Eyore, who else? Oh Kanga!

Carry On!

I wonder what the specs are for tolerances?

Good going Rick!

You'd have to ask the proctologist for the specs that did his last colonoscopy !

Great to hear Rick, I love your posts.

And you've certainly put it thru its paces these past five years! Congrats on the milestone with wishes for many, many more years ahead. Wow, does time fly.

I left ICU 5 years ago today with a new Aortic artery valve...mechanical appropriately...and they didn't need to remove my head.

Very happy!
