When I was buying this in bulk from the manufacturer , it came in large( 2-3 ' ) diameter rolls ! Made it much easier than the tightly rolled stuff I have seen lately :(

They were probably strait pieces to begin with Mike not like the tightly wrapped circular shipped mess we have to deal with.

The last set i did i hung the strips from an extension ladder (longest thing available) with weights on the ends of them, left them in the sun for a week and they were much straighter and a lot easier to deal with when installing.

For the deluxe trim you used to be able to buy right and left handed sections which made installation a lot easier.

Heat is your friend.  Another step that may help will sound counterintuitive.

The coiled plastic is going to have a curvature to it.  Your first inclination will be to match that curvature to the curve of the wheel arch.  Don't.  Bend it backwards for the wheel arches so some of that pre-existing curvature will go around the transition from the wheel arch to the horizontal run under the door.

Man did I screw mine up a month ago, kinked the crap out of it but honestly, you just can't tell unless you look for it.

My problem with the heat gun was that the trim has a very narrow window between solid and goopy.  I was never able to time the heat application to the correct nanosecond - it would suddenly crumple up with no warning.

Use a hair dryer on a hot day. There is a thread in the article section somewhere on this site outlining the best way to install it.

Hello,

I'm trying to install the chrome trim that runs the length of the car above the rocker panels. However, when I put it on there were nasty kinks at the base of each wheel arch. Is there any way to prevent kinking? I soaked the entire piece in a hot bathtub beforehand, it didn't seem to help.

Thanks
