I'm going to say it . I think you got your head way up in the clouds. It's ok to dream. First, Find out what a mini is all about. So far,  all you are going on is from hear say and rumors or ideas in your head of what a mini is . The mini revolutionized the car industry in handling and other ways. Every front engine/driven car that came after the mini had  come because of the mini. The English never change and the rest of the worl improve upon it.  Enjoy it for what it is. Learn from it grasshopper.

It's going to be a fun project. I watched a lot of honda vtec YouTube videos and I'd like to go that route. I don't mind the wait if it has to. But I'll look into my budget and see. But thank you very much for helping identify the mini when it was built. I honestly have no idea. The title says it is a 66 and that's it. I know it's not a 66 and I've accepted that. I've no plan in entering this car in competitions or even sell it for profitable gains. I just want a mini and keep it in my family. My son loves the car and cannot wait til we get to drive it.

Agreed Chuck pre 76 as it has the two bolt subby.

The FE number of 2,000,000 makes it 1975 ish, as does the twin bolt front subframe (pre 76).

The rod change and squre tunnel makes it post '72.

I think you have a good chance at succeeding if you take one step at a time.

Consider it a learning experience. Putting it back together when you did not take it appart adds to the complexity factor.

I have one that I took apart 2 years ago and it is still in pieces. It takes time and patience.

I see one or two blisters in the pictures but no sign of serious rust at all. Its not cosmetically perfect but a solid car as it is. You could assemble the way it is and have an acceptable car. The big ticket item is the motor  but you could buy a rebuilt one from our host. Putting it all together is not a trivial job especially for somebody with no previous experience or tools but with all the parts there it is doable. I would allow 2 weeks to put it together allowing for coffee breaks but not for major rebuilds of components like wheels hubs, brake components etc. Spank offering to help out is a huge advantage from the get go.

You are reading the plates wrong. A 72/3 L reg would read ABC 123L with the L being at the end, his plates start with an L and end with a D they are 66 plates.

Please don't let me sell it. I've always wanted a classic mini and I really like this one. It's my fault I purchased a "special" kind of mini (I know I should've researched more) and I'd hate for this little fella to not be given a chance to be driven and cared for.

But I'm glad I can get more assistance from the master of unfinished project. I'll message you on the side

I'm in North County San Diego (Escondido) and can offer guidance with how to do stuff yourself and where you can have work done.

Our club, SDMinis has a monthly breakfast meeting (generally 1st Sunday of every month). We alternate months between The Corner Bakery in Mission Valley and West Side Cafe off of 9th ave in Escondido. The Sept 7th meeting is in Escondido. Lots of advice and potential help there at the meetings.

Very informal. No dues, no paperwork, etc. Just show up, have some breakfast and kick some tires.

My email is in my profile if you want to contact me off board.

It's one of those "special" few. But my post isn't about that. I'd like to just get this running or if not I'd sell it. It's been a headache already finding out the special traits of this mini after I bought it. maybe I'd feel better if I see it run one day. If not I'd sell. As for an amount, I've no idea how much I'd let it go. Haven't really thought about it more yet.

iTIt's not a mark 2. maybe 3 or 4. Right now all you need is a bucket , soap and a rag and start cleaning.

I just bought myself a California titled and registered non op classic mini project. I'm not a mechanic, I have disabilities and I barely have any tools and I want to be honest that it was an impulsive buy. It's my very first mini!! I want this to be my daily driver but I want to look for people in San Diego, CA that are knowledgable about the mini classics and help me build it. I really want to keep this car but if I cant be able to get it road worthy then I might consider selling the mini and buy a rust free running mini (+ cash if needed).

My mini is almost rust free. Body is solid and the only components missing or broken are fuel tank (missing) ,998cc motor (blown and left dry by previous owner), driver side wheel/ brake assembly and axle. I'll attach link to photos.

**I've met smart asses here and I hope you'd keep the dumb comments to yourself please.i

Please help me build myself a road worthy vtec or stock mini. if you're in San Diego, CA I'd appreciate it!
