You would be better off asking this question on one of the BMW mini specific forums (or those whose primary focus is the BINI).  This site does sell BINI parts, but our knowledge base is mostly in the classic mini realm.  There are some folks like me that own both, but if you are looking for BINI advice gurus then this is not the site to look at.

I will however say that I not messed with the intake on my BINI, but mostly becauseI am paranoid.  On my old Toyota Matrix I had installed a k&n short air intake and really liked how it smoothd out the power baNd.      My problem came much later.  I suspect the SAI caused my car to run richer, which (I think) caused my catalytic converter to crap out earlier than expected (85k miles...warranty is 80), which ended up being a substantial chunk of cash to replace.  lus if you are using oiled filters you need to be very careful about how much oil you spray.  I also started seeing signs that some oil was coming off of the filter and onto the 02 sensor and throttle body (which is yet another thing to add to your regular maintnce checks).
